Creating a Vibrant Space for Young Artists to Grow and Express Themselves in Scarborough

SCATH is a safe and inspiring space where young artists come together to express themselves through meaningful art.

It is a community built on creativity, passion and connection. Whether it's dancing, singing, writing or painting; every form of art shared here tells a story from the heart.

When we build memories, friendships and a sense of belonging, painting side by side, laughing and sharing ideas fills the room with joy and purpose.

SCATH is more than just art, it's a family where creativity brings us closer and turns our feelings into something beautiful.

OUR JOURNEY

On March 22, 2023, we were presented with an opportunity that would profoundly shape our community and our journey in the creative world. What began as a vision shared by four youth leaders quickly grew into something much greater. We brought together young people from our community to collaborate on meaningful art murals, ones that would reflect our emotions, struggles, and resilience through creativity.

Throughout this process, the youth courageously advocated for themselves and expressed that music, writing, painting, and dance are powerful outlets that allow them to communicate community feelings that are often difficult to put into words. Together, we created more than a mural; we created a safe space for expression, healing, and connection within our community.

Since then, we have been supporting creative and expressive art programs in the Danzig community, teaching art to young children and creating new murals in Scarborough communities. Our vision is to create new vibrant spaces for young Scarborough artists to learn, grow, and thrive.

OUR ROOTS

Represents where we come from and what shapes us. it reflects our culture, our struggle, our growth and the strength we carry within, through creativity, whether it is painting, music, writing or dance we express the emotions that are deeply rooted in our experience. our roots ground us, connect us to one another and remind us that even through hardship, we continue to grow.

ABOUT US

SCATH (Scarborough's Creative & Artistic Talent Hub) is where young artists from our communities come to create, connect, and build something real.

We're youth-led and community-grounded. That means the people running things grew up here, know the streets, and understand what young artists actually need, not what someone else thinks they should have.

Through murals, workshops, and creative projects, we give young people the chance to develop real skills, work on real projects, and see their work up on walls, courts, and stages across the city.

Whether you've been creating your whole life or you're just figuring out what you've got to say, this is your space.

Shermaine

I prioritize collaboration and development. I support youth with practical projects, enhancing their skills. I has assisted in creating a warm atmosphere that helps young artist to learn and experiment with their talent.

Marquise

I bring creativity and positivity to every project. I work closely with people, on murals and designs. I think the best art happens when everyone contributes. I also love helping young creatives find their style and learn skills. I have lead workshops. I love getting involved in projects. I believes in teamwork. Making a positive impact.

Kevonte

Born and raised in Scarborough, specifically in Danzig, I’ve seen how art connects people. As a youth leader, getting together with the community to create lasting art is my goal. For me, it’s not just about making art, it’s about building confidence, leadership, and real opportunities together.

Sienna

I love turning ideas into visuals, experiences the entire community can be proud of. I work closely to guide the youth through visual art projects that build artistic skills and overall self confidence. For me, arts about expressing, connecting to the community and making something meaningful together.

Fatma

I truly love being a youth leader because it allows me to create a safe and welcoming space where the youth feel seen, heard and valued. I've made unforgettable memories while inspiriting others to believe in themselves. Being a positive role model fills my heart with pride and experience has me grow stronger and get more confidence in my leadership.
